Bryan Austin founded Austin Sumner Properties in 2007 as a partnership with Don Sumner. Since then, has developed over 7.5M square feet of retail, office, industrial, and multifamily projects. Bryan has advised private and institutional clients in over $3B worth of real estate transactions.
Bryan holds a BBA in Real Estate from the University of Georgia, Terry College of Business. His career in real estate began after graduating from Athens Academy when he joined his grandfather’s development firm, Porterfield Development Co. He then managed the leasing of retail, office, and flex space developments across the Southeast and Texas at The Dovetail Companies.
Bryan successfully built his business and reputation for client advocacy. He leverages his experience, expertise, and work ethic to help his clients succeed.
Tyler Matthews specializes in underwriting, managing, and leasing commercial real estate assets as partner at Austin Sumner Properties. He has helped acquire and redevelop over 3M square feet of properties across the Southeast. He delivers results by managing and leasing real assets to meet or exceed client and investor expectations.
Tyler grew up in the commercial real estate business and joined Austin Sumner Properties in 2015. He graduated from the University of Georgia, Terry College of Business, with a BBA in Real Estate.
Tyler's passion for computer science and technology allow him to improve processes and solutions for real estate clients and partners. Tyler is dedicated to solving any task, big or small, to help his clients succeed.
Wells Scott combines his accounting and audit experience to deliver maximum value as partner in Austin Sumner Properties. Since joining the firm in 2020, Wells has been able to reposition assets through management and leasing to achieve 99.3% occupancy across the entire portfolio.
Wells, a native of Athens, GA is a graduate of Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School, and earned his BA in Business and a Masters of Accounting from Rhodes College. His professional career began working for Morgan Stanley and ServiceMaster Brands. After completing his Masters in Accounting, Wells joined Frazier & Deeter in Atlanta as an auditor. Wells specialized in Broker Dealers and Real Estate Investment Trusts.
Advising and auditing broker dealers and real estate firms exposed Wells to complex real estate developments, acquisitions, and equity transactions. Wells combines his work ethic with his finance and accounting experience to help his clients succeed.
Stacey Smith, Property Manager and licensed Realtor with Austin Sumner Properties, has over 16 years of Real Estate, Property Management, Multi Family and Development experience. Stacey has been with Austin Sumner Properties for over 11 years. She has spent most of her career working for Developers and Real Estate Brokers in the Commercial and Residential fields. She obtained her Georgia Real Estate license with Austin Sumner Properties and has been an agent for over 11 years. Her duties at Austin Sumner Properties includes preparing leases and contracts, showing properties to potential tenants and buyers, listing commercial space, and managing several properties. Stacey enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and friends.
Traci Phillips, Property Manager, and licensed Realtor with Austin Sumner Properties has over 25 years of Real Estate, office and accounting experience. Traci has spent most of her career listing and selling Real Estate in the North Georgia area, before going to work for a law firm and then coming to Austin Sumner Properties. Traci’s duties at Austin Sumner Properties include managing several property portfolios, initiating and dispatching work order requests for current tenants and developers and preparing lease and contract documents. She also shows properties to potential tenants and buyers. Traci has been married for over 30 years and has one daughter, son in law, and two grandchildren. She and her husband live on a beautiful 26 acre farm where they enjoy their horses that they train and show.
Joy Simonton, Property Manager and Licensed Realtor with Austin Sumner Properties, has over 20 years of commercial real estate experience including office, retail and multi-family investments, dispositions and property management. Joy is a native of LaGrange, GA and spent almost 20 years in the Atlanta area working for real estate firms Dewberry Capital, Lane Company and Cassidy Turley. After 4 years at UGA, Joy returned home to receive her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from LaGrange College. Joy returned to Athens in 2011 and is enjoying working in a smaller college town. She enjoys attending UGA basketball games and spending time with her family. Joy and her fiancé live in Athens and have 3 dogs and a cat.
Mary Beth is a fifth generation University of Georgia graduate and longtime Athenian who started working with Austin Sumner Properties in 2010. She served as Director of the Athens Welcome Center for five years before becoming a tax accountant, having served clients in the Athens area for over ten years. She was named “Favorite Independent Accountant” by the readers of the Athens Banner Herald twice. When not accounting for everything in the AS office, she is a wife, mother, aerialist, bassist, and minister in the Universal Life Church of Modesto, CA.

After 35 years of building relationships in Athens, Don has assisted many families with their real estate needs, including management and distribution of estates.
